Conversation at Time Exposed, CLC, Waregem ©️ Bert Demasure

Every curatorial project unfolds within a distinct private, institutional, architectural or cultural context. Benedicte shapes her approach in response to that context while maintaining a clear curatorial direction. From research and conceptual development to selection, communication, coordination and production, together with her team she guides each project through to its final realization.

Her experience spans both purpose-built exhibition venues and unconventional spaces not originally intended for the presentation of art. Attentive to the relationship between artworks, architecture and audience, she develops site-responsive exhibitions that turn the particular qualities of a place into an integral part of the curatorial proposition.

WILD WIND brings together works by ten artists, several made especially for the exhibition. Together, they form a constellation of distinct practices, connected through shifting relationships between image and object, movement and stillness, material and memory.

Our curatorial and art advisory practices meet in this exhibition. Curating creates dialogues among artworks, the space they inhabit and the viewer. We accompany people as they acquire and collect art, attentive to what resonates with them, how an artwork relates to a place and its architecture, and the dialogue it may establish within an existing or developing collection.

The exhibition brings different generations, geographies and aesthetic languages into proximity. Across sculpture, drawing, installation, textilebased work and photography, images and materials are transformed, enlarged, reworked and placed in particular relationships.

The exhibition takes place at Re-Rom, the new cultural site on the historic Rommelaere campus of Ghent University, managed and activated by Monumento. WILD WIND is the first art exhibition within this new chapter for the site and, with the support of Monumento, opens a new chapter for the location.

With new work by Maxime Brigou,Chiara Angelica Gandini (Haus Nuller), Marina Woisky and Zhang Yunyao, alongside carefully selected artworks by N. Dash, Esther Kläs, Bram Vanderbeke, Sybren Vanoverberghe, Erika Verzutti and Jack Whitten, the exhibition examines how artists through material, form and gesture, challenge the way we look, think and experience, and what that reveals about the times we live in.

ENERGIA . Artistic presence in the Belgian – Brazilian landscape

Curated by Benedicte Goesaert & Kathleen Weyts for TheMerode, Brussels.

The exhibition brought together more than 140 works from over 30 lenders, artists, collectors, galleries, and institutions from Belgium and Brazil. It features landmark works such as Cildo Meireles’ iconic Projeto Coca-Cola (1970s), Sebastião Salgado’s Serra Pelada, and Paloma Bosquê’s Plate | Placa, while also presenting a new generation of artists who are defining today’s artistic scene.

By weaving voices across disciplines, continents, and generations, Energia reflects the richness of a shared cultural heritage. This dialogue extends beyond the exhibition itself, offering a critical and editorial perspective that amplifies its reach. At TheMerode, we believe art does not provide easy answers, but better questions. With Energia, we invite you to sense, reflect, and imagine anew, to experience the currents of energy that link Belgium and Brazil, and to feel the transformative force art brings into our collective life.

Rooms of Resonance

Cloud Seven, Brussels

Date : 15.04 — 01.10.2023
Location : Cloud Seven, Brussels (BE)
Initiated by : Frédéric de Goldschmidt
Curator : Benedicte Goesaert & Chantal Pattyn

Curators Benedicte Goesaert and Chantal Pattyn selected about 60 artworks unfolding from the sensuality of earthly matters to the exploration of metaphysical energies. Artworks selected from the private collection by Frédéric de Goldschmidt.

Rooms of Resonance is a journey that can be different every time you walk through it: perhaps your company has changed, your feet walk a different path or the weather is sunny or rainy that day. Each room in the exhibition is a vessel that holds different kinds of resonance between the artworks themselves. However, another kind of resonance is possible the moment you enter each room.
